Caravan Theft Rises Dramatically In The UK

Caravan thefts have seen a worrying rise across the UK recently. Driven by a combination of vehicle shortages and increased demand for leisure vehicles. Several incidents have been reported in September 2024 alone, underscoring this growing trend.
In North Yorkshire, police are investigating the theft of a Swift Elegance caravan stolen from a property near the A63 in Selby. The caravan was taken late at night, and authorities are appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage to aid their investigation.
Similarly, in Scotland, a Lunar Quasar caravan was stolen from a property in Redford, prompting a police appeal for any information regarding the incident.
Police are asking caravan owners to increase their security measures and in particular fit a GPS Tracker which gives them not only a good chance of recovering your Caravan quickly but more importantly helping them to find out who is responsible for the rise in thefts. A recent case involved a man in Lincolnshire, who was arrested after police swiftly recovered a stolen caravan near the A1. Thanks to a tracker installed in the vehicle, authorities were able to locate the caravan within 30 minutes of the theft.
This wave of thefts highlights the importance of vigilance and taking preventive measures to protect valuable leisure vehicles. Even if your caravan has a factory fitted tracker it is worth considering fitting a second hidden battery powered tracker such as the Back2you caravan tracker as professional thieves know exactly where the factory fitted trackers are installed and will remove them. Self contained trackers can be hidden anywhere in the caravan and with no wires to trace they are almost impossible for a thief to find.
